About semaglutide

What Is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist manufactured by Novo Nordisk. It's available as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection under two brand names:

Ozempic®
FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes. Available in 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg doses. Prescribed with a gradual titration schedule starting at 0.25 mg for 4 weeks.
Wegovy®
FDA-approved for chronic weight management. Available in 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg doses. Uses a 16-week dose escalation to the maintenance dose of 2.4 mg.
Compounded semaglutide
Prepared by compounding pharmacies in multi-dose vials at various concentrations. Not FDA-approved as a finished drug product. Requires syringe-based dosing with unit calculation.
Why tracking matters

What Semaglutide Users Need to Track

Semaglutide has a half-life of approximately 7 days, meaning it stays active between your weekly injections. Effective tracking helps you and your provider optimize your treatment:

Injection timing consistency
Semaglutide works best when injected on the same day each week. Tracking helps you maintain a consistent 7-day schedule and alerts you if you're late.
Dose escalation progress
Both Ozempic and Wegovy require gradual titration over weeks. Tracking which dose tier you're on and when you're due to increase helps you stay on schedule.
Weight response over time
Weight loss with semaglutide is gradual. Seeing your trend over weeks and months — correlated with your dose — shows the real picture, not daily fluctuations.
Side effect patterns
GI side effects (nausea, constipation) are common during titration. Logging when they occur relative to injection day helps your provider adjust your plan.
Injection site rotation
Weekly injections over months to years require systematic rotation to prevent lipodystrophy at injection sites.
